NEW CASTLE — Lawrence County Register and Recorder Janet Kalajainen said that three online programs will be available, through the office, by year’s end.

The first is a new cloud search for real estate records, being one of the first counties in the state to do so. It will allow people to search records as far back as 1849 in a quicker way.

“It has exciting features like a lightning-quick quick search, a more thorough advanced search, and live chat support with a 24/7 help desk for any questions you may have,” Kalajainen said.

She said the software will allow individuals to print from home, and an option to purchase certified documents online with a shopping cart system.

The second program is called eProbate, which expands on the virtual probate system the office has been doing since the beginning of the COVID pandemic.

During the process, petitions for probate can be submitted online, and appointments for video probate can be done at the individual’s convenience.

“This new system of probate will be beneficial to both our residents and our out-of-town customers who may need our service in a prompter manner,” Kalajainen said. “Once the probate is reviewed and accepted, original documents can be either mailed in or brought to the courthouse, whereupon letters and short certificates will be ready for pickup or delivery upon payment.”

The third program, for the register of wills side of the office, will be eFiling for the majority of their documents.

Customers will be able to scan documents and send them to be electronically filed.

The register and recorder’s office is a dual office responsible for both the probating of estates as well as the recording of all real estate documents for Lawrence County.

Kalajainen said this is her last project before her last day and retirement on Jan. 3 after nearly 50 years of service.

“We have been e-Recording in the recorder of deeds side of our office since 2012 and now approximately 60% of our documents are received electronically, with the percentage increasing every year,” she said. “We have always kept up with the latest innovations in technology and are excited to provide these three new programs for even faster and more efficient service.”
